Are you looking for playroom inspiration without breaking the bank? Come tour our playroom and see how we designed our playroom on a budget!
I’m so excited to finally show you guys Lincoln and Goldie’s playroom! When we bought this house, we wanted it to be the most functional for our family. So we decided to make our 4th bedroom a playroom, rather than a guest room. I love having all the kids’ toys and activities housed in one place. And not even gonna lie….I love not seeing it in my living room anymore!
The Playroom Layout
I really like the concept of defined spaces, so I wanted to make sure there were special areas in the playroom for different activities:
- Reading
- Exploring (toys, play kitchen, pretend play)
- Creating (art supplies, Playdough, etc)
This helps my toddler stay organized and keeps me from finding a random chunk of Playdough stuck between the pages of a book. Toddler moms, ya feel me.
I went back and forth so many times with colors and decor but ultimately decided on bright colors (yellows, pinks, purples, and blues) with grays and whites to balance it out. I was able to get my hands on some GREAT items to design this playroom on a budget. I’ll link those under the photos!
I love how it turned out and love being in there just as much as my kids!

teepee* | toy storage cubby** | storage bins | pom-pom banner*** | gray and white striped curtains**** | bookshelves*****
*I love this teepee from Hippococo! It’s huge, durable, and super easy to put together. The poles come in two colors: gray or pink.
**My hubby picked this one up from Dirt Cheap for only $30!
***This was a SUPER easy DIY that you can find over here.
****The curtains pictured actually came in a 2 pack for $12 at Walmart! I can’t find them online but have linked some similar.
*****This is an IKEA hack using spice racks! And of course…you can also find them on Amazon.

llama prints | 11×14 frames* | cactus succulent** | cotton rope baskets
*Pro tip: These frames came from Hobby Lobby with different artwork displayed. They were 90% off, and I JUST wanted the frames…so it was a major steal. If you’re looking for frames, Hobby Lobby clearance is a great place to start. Don’t pay attention to the artwork that’s displayed…that can be removed.

wall decals | table and chairs* | giant frame** | art storage rail and containers | easel***
*This table and chairs set is from B.Toys and I. AM. IN. LOVE. It gives the room a little stylish flair and it’s SO easy to clean, because….paint.
**This was a total freebie that probably held some giant piece of canvas art at one time. If you’re looking for something similar, you can try scouting out your local Goodwill or Salvation Army.
***Snagged this at Salvation Army for $8!

We are in the process of a room makeover! I bought the spice racks from Ikea. My question is how did you anchor them into the wall? They aren’t wide enough to anchor on 2 studs. I don’t want them to pull from the wall once I put books on them.
Thank you in advance!

Hi! I’m so sorry that I’m just now seeing this. We used wall anchors….is that what they’re called? lol

Love your playroom. I’m looking for ideas for a dedicated playroom for my grandchildren. Thx for the inspiration! Absolutely love your concept. Budget friendly too.

How did you string your pom poms together? I’ve made a bunch for my daughter’s room using the Clover pom maker, but now I don’t know the best way to get them on a string. Some YouTube videos have them put a needle through the middle, but that seems like the poms would then slide around (especially on the sides that hang straight down).
Please help!
Her Happy Home says
Hi Kelsey! I just tied the pom poms to whatever “strand” I was going to use to hang it. So I’d take two of the pom-pom strings, and tie it in a knot around a long piece of twine (which is what I used as my strand)….does that make sense?

I love the spice rack idea! I was going to make my own book ledges but this seems easier than building them! How did you paint them? I looked on Instagram and couldn’t find any info about them.
Rachel says
I would love to know how you painted the spice racks as well! Spray or brush? (I’m currently in the process of turning our spare room into a play room just like yours, like basically copying almost everything 🙈). Thanks in advance!
Her Happy Home says
Hi Rachel! Acrylic paint is what I used, but chalk paint or spray paint would work as well. 🙂
Her Happy Home says
Hi Amber! I just used a couple coats of acrylic paint! 🙂

Thank you! I got the kitchen from Walmart-it’s Kidkraft and it came with accessories! The last time I looked it up it wasn’t available, but here’s a similar one on Amazon. 🙂

I’m completely in love with this post/playroom. I’ve been trying to figure out how I can reduce the look of clutter while still having a functional play space for my girls (1 and 4). Will definitely be saving this post for ideas for later! Thank you for sharing .

Thank you so much for that sweet compliment! I hope you’re able to use some of these ideas. 🙂
